Three people found dead at Swanage care home – emergency crews at scene

South Western Ambulance Service says it has sent 10 ambulances and “a significant number of additional resources”.

Three people have tragically been found dead at a care home in Swanage, Dorset, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of their deaths. Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance crews, responded to the incident early in the morning, with Dorset Police arriving at the scene shortly after 7:15 a.m.

The incident, which remains unexplained, has led to the evacuation of the care home, and four other individuals have been taken to the hospital as a precaution. The families of the deceased have been informed, and the coroner has been notified. Police emphasized that there is no current threat to the wider public, though a multi-agency presence remains on-site, and a cordon is in place.

The Gainsborough care home, operated by Agincare, accommodates 48 elderly residents, some of whom have dementia. All residents were evacuated to a nearby church hall, with emergency services working to resolve the situation.

Emergency response teams included 10 ambulances and a hazard response team, with fire crews from Dorset, Wiltshire, and the Isle of Wight assisting at the scene. Southern Gas Network engineers were also called in to conduct safety checks, but further details about the nature of the incident have not yet been confirmed.
