Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Denies Claims of Ministerial Offer from Mahama

Accra, March 5, 2025Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has refuted allegations that former President John Dramani Mahama offered him a ministerial position during his first term in office.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, the former Information Minister described the claims as false, clarifying that his exit from Joy FM in 2013 had nothing to do with politics.

Departure from Joy FM Was for Education & Business

Addressing speculation, Oppong Nkrumah explained that he left Joy FM to pursue studies at Makola Law School while focusing on his business in East Legon.

“I left Joy in 2013 and went to Makola Law School while I also focused on my business in East Legon. There was no way I could have been given an appointment by Mahama because I wasn’t a member of the party, and I’m not associated with the way they do their things.”

However, he acknowledged that he has always had a cordial relationship with John Mahama, even before he became president.

On Relationship with Bernard Avle

Oppong Nkrumah also addressed speculation regarding his relationship with journalist Bernard Avle, stating that although Avle is known for his intense questioning, they share a strong professional bond.

He revealed that Avle was part of the team that conducted his mock vetting when he was nominated as Information Minister by President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2017.
