National Security Coordinator Leads Efforts to Resolve Nkwanta South Conflict

The National Security Coordinator, DCOP Abdul Razak Osman, has spearheaded efforts to address the prolonged conflict in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region. During a visit to the area, DCOP Osman led a high-level government delegation aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region, which has been plagued by years of unrest.

The conflict has escalated tensions among residents, raising urgent concerns about safety and security. In response, DCOP Osman directed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to launch a comprehensive investigation into the root causes of the conflict.

“We need to identify and understand the underlying issues contributing to this discord,” DCOP Osman emphasized, urging both agencies to collaborate in gathering intelligence and evidence to resolve the crisis effectively.

In addition to law enforcement efforts, DCOP Osman has sought the involvement of chiefs and community leaders in fostering dialogue and reconciliation. He highlighted the critical role of traditional leadership in diffusing tensions and encouraged the chiefs to take a proactive stance in peacebuilding. As part of this initiative, he urged local leaders to sign a commitment to peace, underscoring the importance of unity and cooperation in ensuring long-term stability.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Bismark Kwasi Onwona, praised the collaborative efforts of joint military and police teams in maintaining relative calm in the municipality. He assured the security forces of the government’s continued support and urged them to ensure that individuals responsible for inciting violence are held accountable.

This renewed approach, combining investigative, traditional, and military efforts, represents a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of the Nkwanta South conflict and promote sustainable peace in the region.
