CHASS Calls for Postponement of January 3, 2025, School Reopening
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to postpone the planned reopening of schools on January 3, 2025, citing unresolved financial challenges.
Reasons for the Request
CHASS highlighted the following financial issues as the basis for their appeal:
- Outstanding payments for perishables and recurrent fees.
- Unpaid transportation costs related to food deliveries.
These concerns were previously raised in letters to the government dated August 12, November 13, and December 20, 2024, but remain unresolved.
Communication with Stakeholders
- CHASS intends to notify parents and guardians about the potential delay through its regional branches and school Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
- The leadership emphasized that the decision stems from their repeated but unanswered appeals to the Ministry of Education and GES.
Impact of Delay
The proposed postponement highlights ongoing financial challenges within the education sector and the need for urgent government intervention to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.
GES and the Ministry of Education are yet to respond to the request.
