Kumasi High Court Dismisses NDC’s Challenge to 2024 Parliamentary Results in Three Constituencies

KUMASI, Ghana – April 26, 2025 — A High Court in Kumasi has dismissed legal challenges filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeking to overturn the 2024 parliamentary election results in three constituencies.

The NDC had contested the declared victories of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North, claiming their candidates were the rightful winners despite official recounts and the swearing-in of the NPP Members of Parliament.

Arguing irregularities, the NDC sought to annul the results. However, the NPP’s legal team countered that the petitions were procedurally flawed. They pointed out that the NDC failed to meet a critical legal requirement — requesting a determination of security for costs within 21 days of the election results being gazetted.

The court agreed with the NPP’s position, ruling that the NDC’s petitions lacked procedural merit and subsequently dismissed all three cases.

In addition, the court imposed financial penalties against the NDC:

  • GHC10,000 in the Ahafo Ano North case
  • GHC30,000 each in the Ahafo Ano South West and Obuasi East cases

Speaking after the ruling, Shadrach Obeng Yeboah, legal counsel for the victorious NPP MPs, praised the outcome.

“It’s a victory for my clients. It’s also a victory for the administration of justice. We’re happy that our applications have been granted, it’s a victory for our party,” he said.

The decision cements the NPP’s hold on the contested seats and marks another significant development in the post-2024 electoral landscape.
