Cape Coast High Court Awards ₵700,000 in Defamation Case to Assin South MP Rev. John Ntim Fordjour

CAPE COAST, Ghana – April 28, 2025 — The Cape Coast High Court has awarded ₵700,000 in damages to Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, in a defamation case against two individuals, Stephen Cobbah and Yaw Koranteng.
Rev. Fordjour had originally sought ₵1 million in damages. The court found that the two defendants had published defamatory statements against him on the Assinman Politics Gh WhatsApp group platform.
In its ruling delivered on Monday, the court not only awarded the monetary damages but also:
- Issued a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants from making any further defamatory statements against Rev. Fordjour.
- Ordered the defendants to retract their defamatory comments.
- Directed them to render an unqualified written apology, which must be published on the Assinman Politics Gh WhatsApp group and any other social media platforms where the original defamatory statements were circulated.
The judgment is seen as a strong warning against the misuse of social media platforms to tarnish reputations without evidence.
