Sam George Hails ‘One Million Coders Programme’ as a Game-Changer for Ghana’s Digital Future

ACCRA, April 17, 2025 — Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has described the newly launched One Million Coders Programme as a bold and transformative initiative that promises to reshape Ghana’s economy and accelerate innovation.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, the Minister emphasized the programme’s alignment with President John Dramani Mahama’s 120-day social contract, showcasing the administration’s urgent commitment to digital transformation.

“Note that this is happening within the 120-day social contract period, and it tells you how committed and focused His Excellency the President is,” Sam George declared.

Framing the programme as more than a mere technical training initiative, the Minister said it embodies a broader vision to reboot Ghana’s economy, foster job creation, and unleash the potential of young people.

“This is a call to action to transform our economy, create sustainable jobs, and invest boldly in our people,” he added, calling on industry stakeholders and partners to fully support the mission.

The One Million Coders Programme aims to train one million young Ghanaians in key digital skills, including coding, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation. The initiative is part of a strategic effort to prepare the nation’s youth to participate and compete in the global digital economy.

The programme is backed by strategic partnerships, notably with MTN Ghana, and is seen as a critical pillar in Ghana’s digital development agenda.

With an eye on long-term growth and sustainability, the initiative is expected to significantly boost employment opportunities, encourage tech entrepreneurship, and drive forward Ghana’s ambition to become a leader in Africa’s digital revolution.
