Government Approves New Measures to Improve Telecom Services in Ghana

📍 Accra, Ghana – April 9, 2025 – The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, has unveiled a set of policy measures to enhance telecommunications services across Ghana, addressing widespread public dissatisfaction with mobile network operators.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister acknowledged complaints regarding poor service quality and announced new spectrum allocations and regulatory enforcement to drive improvements.
Key Measures Announced
✅ Technology Neutrality for MTN Ghana
The government has approved technology neutrality for MTN Ghana, allowing the company to deploy advanced telecom technologies across its networks.
✅ Additional Spectrum for MTN and Telecel Ghana
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has been authorized to offer extra spectrum to MTN and Telecel Ghana, enabling better connectivity and service reliability.
💬 “This will provide operators with more resources to improve their service offerings and quality,” Minister Sam George explained.
Strict Enforcement and Penalties for Poor Service
⚠️ The Minister warned telecom operators that the NCA will begin strict enforcement of service quality within three months of assigning the additional spectrum.
💰 Failure to improve services will result in heavy fines.
📢 “I wish to serve notice that the NCA will rigorously enforce quality standards. Failure to provide improved service will result in stiff fines,” Sam George stated.
