Prime Suspect in Ahmed Suale’s Murder Case Charged with Abetment and Murder

Accra, Ghana – April 3, 2025 – State prosecutors have formally charged Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the prime suspect in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, with abetment to commit murder and murder.
This follows an update presented in court on Wednesday, April 2, by Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfo, who informed the court about modifications to the initial charges against Koranteng.
Prosecution’s Case
The prosecution revealed that Koranteng allegedly led two accomplices, who remain at large, to Ahmed Suale’s residence, where the journalist was later shot and killed by unknown assailants.
- Koranteng is now facing charges of aiding and abetting the two fugitives to commit the crime.
- The prosecution argued that the accused knew Suale’s place of residence and deliberately led the killers to his home.
Background of the Case
The case dates back to June 2018, when former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted Ahmed Suale’s images on Net2 TV, calling for retribution against him.
- Following the broadcast, Suale confronted Koranteng via WhatsApp, accusing him of providing the images to Agyapong.
- On January 16, 2019, after Suale’s photographs were widely circulated, he was shot and killed in Madina.
Bail Denied; Suspect Remanded
Defense lawyer Kofi Essel Hackman appealed for bail on behalf of Koranteng, citing his extended time in custody since March 12.
- “It’s only the court that can grant us bail. My lady, you need to save us from the powers of the state, particularly the Police,” Hackman pleaded.
However, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail request, arguing that:
- Investigations are ongoing, and his release could compromise the process.
- Authorities are still searching for two other fugitives involved in the murder.
Presiding Judge Susan Nyarkotey ruled in favor of the prosecution and remanded Koranteng into custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on April 17.
