Goaso Municipal Hospital Appeals for Lodge for Patient Caretakers, NICU Expansion

Goaso, Ahafo Region – April 3, 2025 – The Nurse Manager of Goaso Municipal Hospital, Madam Andrina Kesse, has raised concerns over the difficult conditions faced by relatives of patients due to the lack of a designated lodge at the facility.
Caretakers Sleep on Floors and Chairs
Speaking to Adom News correspondent Sammy Asare, Madam Kesse revealed that caretakers of admitted patients are forced to sleep on the floor or chairs throughout the duration of the patient’s hospital stay.
She described these conditions as harsh and uncomfortable, citing issues such as:
- Mosquito bites
- Excessive noise
- Lack of proper rest areas
Madam Kesse urged companies, NGOs, and individuals to assist in providing a dedicated lodge for caretakers to enhance their well-being while supporting their loved ones at the hospital.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Faces Space Challenges
Beyond the caretaker accommodation concerns, she also highlighted the hospital’s struggles with its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Despite having well-trained nurses and essential equipment, the limited space in the NICU forces the hospital to refer many newborns to other facilities for critical care.
She called on the government and benevolent organizations to support the expansion of the NICU to accommodate more newborns in need of urgent medical attention.
The appeal adds to growing concerns about health infrastructure challenges in Ghana, as hospitals continue to struggle with space, facilities, and caregiver accommodations.
