GNPC Appoints Kwame Ntow Amoah as Acting CEO

Accra, Ghana – February 14, 2025
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has appointed Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He takes over from Mr. Edward Abambire Bawa, who has been reassigned as Managing Director and Group CEO of GOIL.
A Seasoned Leader in Ghana’s Energy Sector
Mr. Amoah brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as:
- Deputy Chief Executive at GNPC
- Advisor to the Minister of Energy
- Director of Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy
- Chairman and Member of various national and international industry boards
He played a key role in Ghana’s Maritime Boundary Case, serving as Technical Advisor during the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) arbitration, which Ghana won on September 23, 2017.
Key Achievements and Contributions
- Secured over $7 billion in investment for the Sankofa Oil and Gas Development Project, with $700 million in World Bank-backed guarantees.
- Facilitated major oil exploration investments, contributing to Ghana’s status as a commercial oil producer.
- Led efforts in international arbitration cases, helping protect Ghana’s petroleum interests.

Mr. Amoah holds:
- MBA from IMD, Switzerland
- BA (Hons.) in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana
- Training in general leadership, petroleum management, and energy sector governance
