Ofori-Atta no longer a wanted person – OSP

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has removed former Minister of Finance Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons.

This decision follows a significant shift in Ofori-Atta’s stance, as he has now communicated a definite date for his voluntary return to the jurisdiction.

On February 12, 2025, the Special Prosecutor declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person and a fugitive from justice after he failed to indicate a reasonable time for his return, despite being informed that he was a suspect in various corruption and corruption-related cases. He was directed to physically attend the OSP in Accra on a specified date and time for an interview.

However, on February 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta, through his lawyers, communicated his intention to return to the jurisdiction on a specified date. This marked a major shift from his previous intention of remaining outside the jurisdiction indefinitely.

In response, the OSP deemed the stated date of his voluntary return reasonable and rescheduled his attendance accordingly. As a result, Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and is no longer considered a fugitive from justice, pending his voluntary return.

The OSP emphasized that if Ofori-Atta fails to return to the jurisdiction or attend the rescheduled interview, he will be re-entered on the wanted list and considered a fugitive from justice. The OSP will then take all necessary legal steps to secure his return and ensure his attendance at the OSP.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor remains committed to its mandate of ensuring accountability, guided by due process and fairness.
