Asante Kotoko Confirms Brimah as Main Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of Supporter

Kumasi, Ghana – February 17, 2025
The Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Sarfo Duku, has identified an individual named Brimah as the prime suspect in the fatal stabbing of the club’s supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Pooley was tragically killed on February 2, 2025, during a Matchday 19 fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at Nana Koronamansah Park.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings on Monday, February 17, Sarfo Duku confirmed that Brimah, who is still on the run, was the actual perpetrator of the crime.
“Now it means that one person is still at large; he’s called Brimah. The police, per their facts, said that he actually stabbed the deceased person to death,” Duku stated.
He further added:
“In fact, according to the police, and I’m referring to their facts, which are now a public document, all the accused persons have admitted that it was that guy called Brimah, who is now at large, that stabbed Pooley to death.”
- Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
- Among them is Nsoatreman FC owner, Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
- The police are actively pursuing Brimah, who remains at large.
A one-week memorial observation for Nana Pooley was held on Sunday in Kumasi, where fans and sympathizers gathered to mourn his loss.
In response to this tragic event and rising concerns over hooliganism, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has introduced stricter matchday security protocols that all clubs must now follow.
The football fraternity continues to demand justice for Nana Pooley, urging authorities to fast-track investigations and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
