Daniel Domelevo Calls for Strict Oversight on Public Officials

Former Auditor-General and member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Daniel Domelevo, has emphasized the urgent need for stricter oversight of public officials to prevent the misuse of government resources.
Speaking to Joy News after the committee, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, presented its report to President John Dramani Mahama, Domelevo expressed deep concern over the widespread abuse of power by officials entrusted with public funds and properties.
“What shocked me the most was the extreme abuse of public office, where you are the custodian of public funds and use it for yourself, or you are supposed to keep custody of government property and land, and you allocate it to yourself or your cronies,” he stated.
He lamented the lack of accountability, which has fostered a culture of impunity in governance. However, he acknowledged the government’s renewed commitment to fighting corruption.
“The body language and the posturing of the president and his team, to me, is heartwarming. If not for anything at all, for the first time, we are going to see some seriousness on the ground,” he noted.
Domelevo also welcomed the government’s approach to not only recovering misappropriated resources but also preventing future abuses. He highlighted the introduction of Operation Prevent All Loots (OPAL) as a proactive measure to curb further financial leakages.
“It’s not just about holding past governments accountable while we also engage in the same practices. So, to me, it is a good one. We hope to see action in the coming days,” he concluded.
