Appointments Committee Apologizes for Chaotic Vetting Session

Accra, Ghana – The Appointments Committee of Parliament has formally apologized to the Ghanaian public following the disorderly scenes that marred the vetting session on Thursday evening.

The session, which was meant to vet nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was disrupted by a heated confrontation between members of the Minority and Majority Caucuses.

Tensions escalated when the Minority proposed a rescheduling of the vetting to Friday, citing concerns over the proceedings. However, the Majority rejected the proposal, insisting that the process continue as planned. The disagreement quickly spiraled out of control, with some Minority members breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to halt the session.

Despite the disruptions, the Majority remained firm, arguing that the committee was adhering to its established schedule and that the vetting should proceed without delays. The chaotic scenes led to increased security presence in the conference room as tensions mounted.

In a statement, the Appointments Committee expressed regret over the incident, acknowledging the disruption and apologizing to Ghanaians. They assured the public that measures would be put in place to prevent a recurrence and ensure a more orderly and respectful vetting process in the future.
