NIA Contract Staff Demand Unpaid Wages for Ghana Card Registration Exercise

Contract staff engaged in the nationwide Ghana Card registration for children under 15, under the National Identification Authority (NIA), are demanding payment of their wages for October and November 2024.

The affected workers, known as “Team One Nationwide,” claim they have fulfilled their responsibilities but have yet to receive their salaries despite repeated appeals to the NIA. According to the group’s spokesperson, Matilda Tsri, the situation remains unresolved, with no clear communication from the NIA regarding when the payments will be made.

“Other teams involved in the exercise have already been compensated, but we are still waiting. The NIA assured us that our wages would be handled directly, yet nothing has been done,” Tsri told Citi News.

The contract staff report being caught in a bureaucratic limbo, with the NIA directing them to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), which denies responsibility and redirects them back to the NIA.

The workers are urging the NIA to address the issue immediately and ensure their rightful compensation for work completed over two months ago.

This development raises concerns about the management and coordination of such critical national exercises and the welfare of the workforce entrusted with carrying them out.
