The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has acknowledged receiving an additional GHS35 million from the Ministry of Education (MoE) to facilitate the completion of the 2024 WASSCE results processing.
This development follows public tensions between WAEC and the Ministry over the status of financial commitments and their impact on the timely release of the results.
Timeline and Assurance
Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, during a visit to WAEC’s offices on December 24, assured the public that results would be released by December 29. He noted that WAEC was in the final stages of marking and processing.
However, WAEC initially disputed claims about additional financial releases, citing outstanding funds required to meet operational obligations.
In a statement issued on December 27, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed the receipt of GHS35 million on December 25. He emphasized that the Council is working around the clock to meet the December 29 target.
Outstanding Financial Challenges
Despite the funds received, WAEC appealed to the Ministry to release the remaining balance to settle payments for supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers.
“The Council wishes to assure its stakeholders of its commitment to delivering on its mandate despite financial challenges,” Kapi added.
Looking Ahead
WAEC and the Ministry have pledged collaboration to ensure that results are finalized and released as scheduled. Stakeholders remain optimistic that the situation will resolve in time for candidates to access their results by the end of December.
