The Ministry of Education has addressed recent comments made by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regarding its financial obligations, confirming it has paid GHS 167,976,815 to WAEC since July 2024.
In a letter dated December 20, 2024, WAEC formally acknowledged receipt of a GHS 25,000,000 cheque, which was part of the Ministry’s funding for the 2024 WASSCE (School Candidates) examination fees. Additionally, WAEC requested GHS 35,000,000 to support the processing of results, a payment the Ministry has also fulfilled.
Despite these payments, the Ministry expressed surprise over the WAEC PRO’s public denial of receiving the GHS 25,000,000, urging WAEC to verify facts internally before issuing statements that could mislead the public or undermine the Ministry’s efforts.
The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to the timely release of the 2024 WASSCE results and called on the public to remain calm as it continues collaborating with WAEC to resolve any remaining concerns.
