Speaker Bagbin Calls for Unity and Acceptance in Christmas Message

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has delivered a Christmas message urging Ghanaians to embrace unity and humility following the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the nation, Bagbin reflected on the year’s challenges in governance, the economy, and democracy, encouraging citizens to view these difficulties as opportunities for growth and to express gratitude for God’s blessings.

Bagbin described the election outcome as divinely ordained and called on Ghanaians to accept the results with humility and focus on national progress.

“My call to each and every one of us is to accept the results in humility… and for us to reflect deeply on what went wrong and what went right for each of us and the country,” he said.

Unity and National Dialogue

The Speaker emphasized the dangers of division, tribalism, and hatred, stressing the need for unity and dialogue to resolve differences peacefully through the rule of law.

“Without a nation, we live in silos and tribes, giving room for hatred. It’s important for us to come together, to dialog, and use peaceful means to resolve our differences,” Bagbin stated.

Encouragement to the Youth

Reassuring Ghana’s youth, Bagbin expressed optimism about the country’s future, highlighting its enduring status as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

“Ghana is on the right path. We still remain the beacon of hope and democracy, admired across the continent as the Mecca of the Black race,” he said, urging the nation to build on 32 years of multiparty democracy.

Acknowledgments and Festive Greetings

Bagbin extended gratitude to traditional leaders, the clergy, and the media for their contributions to nation-building, praising the media’s role in fostering dialogue and governance.

Concluding his message, Bagbin wished Ghanaians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, praying for continued blessings and strength for the nation.
