Damage found on President Akufo-Addo’s statue in Sekondi-Takoradi
A hole has been discovered on the back of one leg of the statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi. This damage has raised concerns about the statue’s condition and the intent behind its installation.
The statue, unveiled during President Akufo-Addo’s regional tour, was meant to commemorate his administration’s key projects in the Western Region, including:
- The rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
- The construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro interchange in Takoradi.
- The redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, defended the statue as a symbol of these achievements. However, the statue has faced opposition from some Takoradi residents, who previously expressed intentions to remove it. It is unclear whether the recent damage is a result of structural weakness or deliberate action by individuals opposed to the monument.
Authorities have yet to announce measures to address the issue or determine accountability for the damage.
