Ghana’s National Transition Team Inaugurated by President-elect Mahama and Outgoing President Akufo-Addo
President-elect John Dramani Mahama and outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have formally launched Ghana’s 2024 National Transition Team, marking a pivotal step in the peaceful transfer of power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The meeting, held at Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, December 11, underscored Ghana’s commitment to democratic principles and a smooth transition process. The National Transition Team, as mandated by Ghana’s Constitution, will oversee the transfer of executive authority, ensuring the incoming government is equipped with the necessary state information and logistical support.
Key Remarks
President-elect Mahama highlighted the cooperative spirit of the transition, emphasizing his commitment to unity and stability. “Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, as well as key economic issues. The transition teams will delve deeper into these matters to work collaboratively in the interest of Ghana,” Mahama said.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo echoed these sentiments, pledging his government’s full cooperation. “I assure him [Mahama] of my support and that of my government throughout the transitional process to ensure his administration starts on the best footing possible,” he stated.
Role of the Transition Team
The National Transition Team will play an integral role in:
- Facilitating access to critical government data.
- Coordinating detailed briefings on state affairs, including security and the economy.
- Preparing for the January 7, 2025, inauguration of the President-elect.
This collaboration demonstrates Ghana’s dedication to maintaining stability, continuity, and transparency during leadership transitions.
