Election 2024: EC to provide regular media briefings on December 7
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced its plan to hold regular media briefings during the December 7 general elections to keep the public updated on the electoral process. Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, highlighted in a press release on December 5 that the initiative aims to enhance transparency and provide timely information to Ghanaians throughout the voting and collation periods.
Media personnel accredited for the National Collation Centre have been invited to participate in the briefings. The EC underscored the vital role of media collaboration in ensuring that accurate and reliable updates reach the public.
The scheduled briefings will commence at 9:00 a.m. on Election Day, followed by sessions at 12:00 noon, 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. Additional briefings will occur from 9:00 p.m. onwards as results are received from the regions. Each session is expected to last no more than 30 minutes, during which the EC will address election-related developments and respond to reports emerging from various parts of the country.
The EC also appealed to both the media and the public to verify any election-related information with the Commission before sharing it to avoid the spread of misinformation. Reiterating its commitment to fair, credible, and peaceful elections, the Commission expressed its eagerness to work closely with the media to make the election process accessible and transparent to citizens.
