The Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed Special Voting for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5, 2024, following the recall of ballot papers for these regions.
Initially set for Monday, December 2, the rescheduling was announced by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Sunday, December 1.
Jean Mensa cited a broken seal on electoral materials in the Eastern Region as the reason for the delay. Although no issues were identified with the Western Region’s ballots, the EC recalled them as a precaution since both regions’ ballots were printed at the same press.
Special Voting in other regions will proceed as originally planned on December 2. The EC has reassured stakeholders of its commitment to a credible election process and urged patience and cooperation as it resolves the issue.
