Next NDC govt will prioritise affordable healthcare for all – Mahama
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has highlighted the need for urgent reforms in Ghana’s healthcare sector, focusing on high costs and insufficient infrastructure as key challenges. Speaking alongside his wife, Lordina Mahama, during the commissioning of a new maternity and children’s ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North, on November 12, Mahama reiterated his commitment to implementing free primary healthcare if elected.
Mahama stressed the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare, especially for underserved communities, emphasizing that financial barriers often prevent Ghanaians from accessing medical services. He stated that his administration would prioritize infrastructure development and social interventions to improve healthcare access across the country.
“Many Ghanaians cannot access the medical care they need, not necessarily because facilities don’t exist, but because the costs are often beyond their reach,” he said. “The next NDC government will prioritize critical social interventions designed to make healthcare accessible and affordable for every Ghanaian, regardless of socioeconomic background.”
In addition to healthcare reforms, Mahama announced a proposed initiative to provide free sanitary pads to all female students in secondary schools. He noted that this program would support girls’ school attendance by addressing the challenges young women face due to limited access to hygienic pads.
“This initiative will directly impact the health and attendance of young girls and ensure that they can continue their education,” Mahama said, underscoring his commitment to improving both healthcare and educational opportunities for young Ghanaians.
