The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is owed a substantial GH¢45.5 million in unpaid water supply arrears by domestic customers in the Northern and Savannah regions, as reported by Stephen Amihere Mensah, GWCL’s Northern Area Manager. While the government has cleared all outstanding debts owed by institutions, residential customers remain in significant arrears, including GH¢7 million owed through standpipe water access, which is typically a cash-and-carry system.
In response, GWCL is launching a revenue mobilization campaign from November 1 to December 31, 2024, to recover the unpaid funds. Mensah emphasized the necessity of this initiative to ensure GWCL’s financial sustainability, stating, “We have to chase our customers for our monies. If we don’t organize ourselves to collect our money, we will not be able to pay our suppliers.”
