We’re hopeful for a positive Supreme Court ruling on vacant seats – Majority

Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will soon resolve the ongoing dispute over Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant. This legal controversy has contributed to heightened tensions between the NPP and NDC in Parliament, with both parties claiming majority status. The NPP boycotted recent proceedings due to these claims, stalling critical government business.

Djornobuah, speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, emphasized the importance of a swift resolution by the court to prevent a repeat of the last sitting’s confusion. He stated that the court’s involvement is crucial in determining the legitimacy of the Speaker’s decision, which could restore order in Parliament.

He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would issue a final ruling before the next parliamentary session, allowing the legislative body to move forward and easing the current political impasse. He highlighted the importance of the court’s decision, given the impact of the vacant seats on government business.
