‘Where is the evidence for voter register claims?’ – NPP slams NDC over demo

Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the recent ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the Electoral Commission (EC), describing it as unjustified due to the NDC’s failure to provide evidence of alleged irregularities in the provisional voters’ register.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Kodua Frimpong pointed out that the NDC has yet to submit any substantial proof regarding the supposed discrepancies or unauthorized entries in the register, despite repeated requests from the EC.
“Many Ghanaians and the NPP are puzzled as to why the NDC has not presented detailed information to the EC about the irregularities, discrepancies, and unauthorized entries it claims to have found in the provisional voters’ register, despite several appeals from the EC,” Kodua Frimpong stated.
He highlighted specific claims made by the NDC in their petition to the EC, including allegations of 243,540 illegal transfers, 3,957 deleted names, and over 15,000 unidentified voter transfer cards in the provisional register.
“However, 13 days after the NDC first met with the EC on September 6, 2024, they have yet to provide a single document to verify any of these claims. Isn’t this interesting?” he questioned.
Kodua Frimpong went on to challenge the NDC’s refusal to submit evidence of any illegal transfers, suggesting that their failure to do so undermines the credibility of their claims.
“If the NDC indeed has evidence of illegal transfers, why haven’t they submitted it to the EC so that the alleged irregularities can be corrected?” he asked.
He concluded by stating that the NDC’s nationwide protest would have been justifiable had the EC ignored evidence of irregularities, but in the absence of such evidence, the demonstration was unwarranted.
